Question 195: To ask the Minister for Social and Family Affairs the number of European directives and the titles of these directives that have been issued to her Department since Ireland joined the EU; the number of these that have been implemented; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Since 1973, six EU Directives have been transposed by my Department. Apart from Directive 79/7/EEC (which dealt with the principle of equal treatment in social security schemes) the remaining five Directives relates to issues concerning occupational pension schemes. Two Directives were transposed by way of Regulations made under Section 3 of the European Communities Act 1972, while three Directives were transposed by way of primary legislation. The table below lists the relevant directives and the legislation by which they were transposed.
