Question 144: To ask the Minister for Health and Children if she will take on board the recommendation of the Joint Committee for Health and Children to fund the Exon skipping trials in the UK; when legislation will be implemented to allow funding to be invested; and the action she is taking to reciprocate the help the UK is giving to Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy patients in this country. There is no mechanism or budget for Government funding of U.K. health research. There are no plans to introduce legislation in this area. I understand that Muscular Dystrophy Ireland has secured access for Irish children to the Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy registry in the United Kingdom so that they can be considered for inclusion in the first systematic trial of this treatment.
