Question 153: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of persons whose refugee status has been revoked by him and the relevant applicable years where he has been satisfied that the persons presence in the State posed a threat to national security or public policy, pursuant to section 21 (1)(h) of the Refugee Act 1996. Since the establishment of the Ministerial Decisions Unit in 2001, 16 people have had their refugee status revoked. This is broken down as follows:

2003 — 1 revocation

2005 — 4 revocations

2006 — 3 revocations

2007 — 3 revocations

2008 — 5 revocations to date

Of these 16 revocations, 6 were revoked on the basis that the Minister was satisfied that the person to whom the declaration had been given was a person whose presence in the State posed a threat to national security or public policy.
