Question 918: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if the cost to land owners of hiring surveyors, engineers and solicitors as a result of the placing of a compulsory purchase order is to be covered by the local authority concerned in all cases; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The legislation governing compulsory land acquisition by local authorities provides for the payment of compensation for lands acquired by them on the authorisation of a duly confirmed Compulsory Purchase Order.

The amount of compensation payable by local authorities for land acquired by them is solely a matter for negotiation between the landowner and the local authority concerned. In the event of dispute, either party may refer the case to the Property Arbitrator. I have no function in the matter.
