Question 203: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the firms of solicitors or individual barristers which he has engaged on a contractual basis in the past 18 months; the purpose of that engagement; the fees paid or an estimate of the fees expected to be paid by the conclusion of the tasks they were engaged for; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I can inform the Deputy that my Department's legal representation/advice is in the normal course of events arranged and paid for through the Offices of the Chief State Solicitor and Attorney General, or provided directly by the staff of those Offices. In a small number of instances lawyers are engaged directly to carry out tasks not within the ordinary ambit of legal representation. Since January, 2007 the following engagements have been made under this heading:
