Question 297: To ask the Minister for Arts, Sport and Tourism the number of applications received by his Department from the various organisations throughout County Kildare for grant aid for capital, major and minor projects in 2008; the projected costs in total; the extent to which he expects to positively respond to such applications before the end of 2008; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the Sports Capital Programme, which is administered by the Department, funding is allocated to sporting and community organisations at local, regional and national level throughout the country. The 2008 programme was advertised on 13th and 14th of January and the deadline for receipt of applications was 29th February for paper-based applications and 7th March for on-line applications.

Prior to the deadline for the 2008 Sports Capital Programme a total of 44 applications were received from County Kildare seeking a total of €8,295,720 for projects totalling €13,542,722. All applications received before the deadline will be evaluated against the programme's assessment criteria, which are outlined in the guidelines, terms and conditions of the programme. I intend to announce the grant allocations for the programme as soon as possible after the assessment process has been completed.
