Question 343: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if, in view of the situation currently being experienced by many farmers particularly in the pig sector (details supplied), he will approach the European Commission to alter the terms of the farm waste management scheme beyond the 31 December 2008 deadline; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The end-2008 deadline for completion of work by farmers under the revised Farm Waste Management Scheme introduced by my Department in March 2006 is a strict condition of the EU state aid approval for the Scheme. I have no plans to approach the EU Commission to alter the terms of the state aid approval.
