Question 260: To ask the Minister for Foreign Affairs if he will provide an estimate of the number of individuals in South Africa and in Argentina who are eligible for, but do not currently hold, Irish citizenship; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16538/08]

There are significant numbers of people in Argentina and South Africa of Irish background but, unless they actually applied for Irish citizenship, it would not be possible to estimate the numbers who would meet the criteria to qualify under our legislation.
