Question 185: To ask the Minister for Education and Science the number of students who registered for PhD. degrees in universities (details supplied) between the years 1997 to 2007 who were conferred with PhD. degrees, and who were conferred with masters degrees rather than PhDs; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The numbers of Full Time and Part Time PhD enrolments and graduations since 1996/97 academic year for the seven universities is outlined in the table. It should be noted that the enrolments show the entire cohort of PhD enrolments in the given year, not just the first year enrolments. Under the current data collection methodology, data on the number of students who registered for PhD. degrees but who were conferred with master's degrees rather than PhDs, are not available.
