Question 245: To ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of multinational companies that have located here for each year since 1998 to date in 2008; the names of these companies; the number of jobs these companies have created; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The total number of new jobs created in multinational client companies of IDA Ireland and Shannon Development in the period 1998 to 2007 is 137,864. The annual breakdown of these figures is set out in tabular statements 1 and 2. This information is taken from the Forfás Annual Employment Survey. Information on jobs numbers is gathered on a confidential basis for statistical purposes only. In the period 1998 to 2007 a total of 333 multinational companies set up operations in this country, with assistance from IDA and Shannon Development. The names of those companies are set out on the tabular statement 3.

Since the beginning of 2008 there have been 5 announcements relating to new multinational, greenfield start-ups with a potential to create 595 new jobs with IDA support, while in the same period, 9 companies have announced expansions with a potential to create an additional 1,016 jobs. The names of these companies, together with the location and estimated job numbers that have been announced, are set out in the tabular statements 4 and 5. It should be noted, however, that jobs announced may take three to five years to come on stream.
