Question 661: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if all incandescent bulbs will be banned from January 2009, as announced by him as part of his Carbon Report in 2007; and if this will mean that no incandescent bulbs of any wattage can be purchased in shops here from January 2009; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I refer to the reply to Questions Nos. 1314, 1331 and 1345 of 30 January 2008 in which I stated that, in formulating proposals for a minimum energy efficiency standard for lighting, it will be necessary to have regard to a range of factors, including the availability of alternative lamp technologies in the market to meet consumer requirements. The position is unchanged.
