Question 655: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the number of incinerators that will be required to deal with municipal waste; the locations of these incinerators; the support his Department will provide towards the building and operating of these incinerators; and if he will make a statement on the matter. My Department has no role in determining the number or location of municipal waste incinerators, or in funding the construction or operation of such facilities. Such decisions are taken by local authorities, in the context of the regional waste management plans for which they have statutory responsibility, and by commercial enterprises, in relation to private sector facilities, and are subject to the statutory planning and waste licence approval processes.
I also refer to the reply to Question No. 630 on today's order paper in relation to the review and future direction of national waste policy.
