Question 223: To ask the Minister for Health and Children if she will direct the Health Service Executive to make its board meetings public and accountable in the interest of transparency in view of the fact that many major decisions affecting the lives of people are being made behind closed doors by a body which in the main is not accountable to Dáil Éireann. Section 6 of the Health Act, 2004 states that the Health Service Executive is a corporate body. In view of this, arrangements in relation to its Board meetings are a matter for the HSE. Accordingly, my Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to respond directly to the Deputy in relation to the matter raised.
