Question 205: To ask the Minister for Health and Children if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the National Ambulance Service have been recently advised by the chief fire officers in the relevant areas that they will be seeking payment for ambulance assist calls previously provided without charge and that the Fire and Rescue Services will be seeking full cost of call outs plus 33% for overhead costs; further, if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the National Ambulance Service is not funded for such charges and this could lead to a discontinuation of requests for such assistance, which could have serious implications in the respect of road traffics accidents; and if she will make a statement on the matter. My Department has made inquiries of the National Ambulance Office of the Health Service Executive regarding the matter raised by the Deputy.
I understand that, while the HSE National Ambulance Office is aware that this general matter has been raised from time to time at local level, it has not been raised by the fire services centrally with the National Ambulance Office.
