Question 383: To ask the Minister for Defence if an independent Member of Dáil Eireann was invited to the Easter commemoration ceremony at the General Post Office in 2008 and if not, if he will ensure that an independent Member will be invited to future ceremonies where representatives of all the parties in Dáil Éireann are represented. In consultation with the Taoiseach's office and similar to last year, the members of Dáil Eireann invited to attend the 1916 Commemoration ceremony on Easter Sunday were: Ministers and Ministers of State, Opposition Party Leaders and members of the All Party Consultation Group on the commemoration of the Rising. There are no independent members of the Group, which comprises the nominated representatives of each Party Leader in Dáil Eireann.
Although it is not intended to send invitations for the commemoration of the Rising to all Oireachtas members in the years leading to the Centenary, I would be pleased to send an invitation to any member of the Oireachtas indicating an interest in attending the event.
