Question 133: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if Ireland is required to carry out a strategic environmental assessment of the Irish coast under European Union law; the steps she has taken in relation to carrying out such an assessment; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Strategic Environmental Assessments (SEA's) are not required to be carried out in respect of any particular area such as the Irish Coast. However, they can be required in relation to specific plans and/or programmes. Where this is the case it is the intention of my Department to meet its obligations under European legislation.
