Question 432: To ask the Minister for Education and Science her views on whether the administrative and management systems of her Department need to be re-examined, if she is unable to indicate the number of science teachers who in addition to a science degree have an educational degree or postgraduate qualifications for post-primary teaching as indicated in Parliamentary Question No. 452 of 4 March 2008 in view of the Government's commitment to improving science education in post-primary and third level centres of education, the establishment of Science Foundation Ireland and the fact that such post-primary teachers are being paid by her Department; and if she will make a statement on the matter. As referred to in my reply to Parliamentary Question No. 452 of 4 March 2008, the Teaching Council's database of registered teachers will be able to provide a range of data on the numbers of registered teachers in various disciplines and on their qualifications including the type of information sought by the deputy. In light of this new resource I do not consider it necessary to re-examine the administrative and management systems of my Department.
