Question 510: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if the Garda National Immigration Bureau keeps statistics on the number of non-EEA nationals to whom it granted a stamp 4 based on marriage to an Irish citizen; the relevant numbers for the past four years; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I understand from the Garda authorities that as of 29 February 2008, some 8,819 people had been given permission to remain in the State under stamp 4 conditions on the basis of marriage to an Irish Citizen. It is not possible to give a break down of this figure on a year-by-year basis. The permission is usually granted for periods of not longer than five years.
