Question 213: To ask the Minister for Health and Children if the process for the selection of a site for a new regional hospital serving the north east has been concluded; when she expects the decision on the location of the new centre of excellence to be made; when the outcome of this process will be made public; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The hospital reconfiguration process in the North East is being overseen by a Health Service Executive (HSE) Steering Group. A sub-committee of the Steering Group was established to progress the issue of site selection for the new regional hospital. Following a tendering process, the HSE appointed a firm of consultants to carry out an independent site location study. The HSE anticipates that the consultants' report will be completed by the end of the month for consideration by the HSE Board and management team.
