Question 196: To ask the Minister for Health and Children her views, following concerns raised by elderly constituents in Tipperary South, on extending the provision of digital hearing aids to people over the age of 65 in order that they do not feel discriminated against because of their age; her further views on measures in place in other countries for the provision of hearing aids to elderly people; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The Community Audiology Service of the HSE provides hearing aids to eligible adults with medical cards. The question of the criteria for allocation of digital hearing aids, as opposed to other types of appliances, is a matter for the HSE. I have asked the HSE for a report on the matter and I will revert to the Deputy.
