Question 493: To ask the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if her Department operates a grant scheme to provide financial assistance to young people wishing to purchase milk quotas in order to start up a dairy farm business; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [3784/08]

My Department does not operate such a grant scheme. However, it does operate a Milk Quota Trading Scheme, through which young people, subject to certain conditions, have an opportunity to purchase milk quota as priority applicants, in order to enter the dairy business.
