Question 60: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the progress made by the gardaí in their investigation into possible involvement by Irish residents in an international child pornography ring as part of Operation Koala; if a file has been sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am informed by the Garda authorities that as a result of information received five persons have been identified as suspects in the world-wide operation into possession of child pornography titled Operation Koala. I am further informed that the addresses of all five suspects have been searched by Gardaí pursuant to section 7 of the Child Trafficking and Pornography Act 1998. A number of media and electronic storage devices have been seized for forensic examination, which is taking place at present. As this is an ongoing Garda investigation, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further at this time.
