Question 216: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if, in view of proposals to build a new prison in Kilworth, County Cork, he will meet with community representatives to allow them to air their concerns before construction begins; and if he will make a statement on the matter. I am happy to be in a position to inform the Deputy that to date two meetings have taken place in recent months between representatives of the community at Kilworth and officials from the Irish Prison Service. These meetings have been extremely useful both in terms of informing the community in relation to the proposed development, which must be noted is at a very early stage, and listening to the concerns expressed in relation to the project. I will of course be happy to facilitate further meetings as appropriate over the course of the development of the project.
