Question 246: To ask the Minister for Health and Children further to Parliamentary Question No. 214 of 10 October 2007, when the information requested regarding rehabilitation beds for persons over 65 years will be supplied by the Health Service Executive; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The most recent data published by this Department is the 2005 Long Stay Activity Statistics which records that there were 2,298 limited stay beds in 2005 available in Long-Stay Units. The survey indicates 471 of these were rehabilitation beds (326 public, 108 voluntary and 37 private). This data should be interpreted in the context of the survey response rate of 80% for 2005.

I understand that the Health Service Executive is currently reviewing how rehabilitation beds are defined and accounted for. I further understand that the HSE wrote to the Deputy on 16th October to explain that it is working towards standard definitions for information collation and reporting and that the Executive would forward the information requested by the Deputy as soon as it becomes available. As this is a matter for the HSE I have asked the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to respond directly to the Deputy.
