Question 151: To ask the Tánaiste and Minister for Finance his views on the proposal which has been put forward by the Society of St Vincent de Paul, the Money Advice and Budgeting Service and the Combat Poverty Agency for the introduction of a savings scheme for low income households, on a pilot basis for two years to address the fact that low income families which have no savings are at a particularly high risk of falling into debt. I have received numerous proposals for tax changes in the context of the Budget and it is a long-standing tradition that the Minister for Finance does not comment on tax measures in the run-up to the Budget.
