I have no role in the valuation of properties, which is the function of the Valuation Office. The Commissioner of Valuation is independent in the exercise of his duties under the Valuation Act, 2001 and the making of valuations for rating purposes is his sole prerogative.

However, I understand there is a revision process in place under which the person concerned can apply, in writing, to the Valuation Office for the revision of the rateable valuation of his premises to take account of any changed circumstances in the use of the premises, enclosing the prescribed fee of €250. Should he be dissatisfied with the revision outcome he will, as per statute, have a right of appeal in the first instance to the Commissioner of Valuation and subsequently to the Valuation Tribunal.
