Under our international obligations arising from the Kyoto Agreement and in line with the aims of the Government as set out in the Programme for Government we are committed to reducing our Greenhouse Gas Emissions.

Fiscal measures are one of the levers available to the Government and these may be considered as part of our overall response to the demands of meeting our targets. The Programme for Government states that the Minister for Finance will present an outline carbon report, in conjunction with the annual financial budget. The Programme for Government also states that the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government, will follow this with a report outlining our use of energy in the preceding year, the progress made in meeting the reduction targets and Government's plans to meet the targets in the following year.
