Question 567: To ask the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources if he will introduce directly or through the SEI, grant aid towards the installation of heat recovery pump systems which operates on the principle of the utilisation of surplus or used heat in home heating, having particular regard to the ECO friendly nature of such a proposal and that it would appear that this particular type of system is specifically excluded under present regulations; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Sustainable Energy Ireland advise me that air heat exchangers / ventilation recovery systems provide secondary heating in that they rely on an existing primary source to provide the heat. The key objective of the Greener Homes Scheme is to stimulate the market for domestic renewable heat technologies. Exhaust heat pumps are not eligible for support under the Greener Homes Scheme. In SEI's assessment they do not represent an entirely renewable technology since the primary heat source can also be fossil fuels (coal, oil or gas).
