Question 529: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government further to Parliamentary Question No. 209 of 1 November 2007, if the letter sent to Waterford County Council dated 30 May 2007 has been withdrawn by him; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [29294/07]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 209 of 1 November 2007.

I am informed that the figure of €600,000 referred to in that Question and in the letter now referred to, represented an early Department estimate of potential financial commitments in respect of the construction of a fire station in the town rather than an actual commitment under the Fire Services Capital Programme. In that context the letter referred to in the Question has not been withdrawn. The position is unchanged.
