The Secretary General of my Department has prepared a report into this matter, at my request. This report was completed on 25 October and has been published on the website of the Department of Transport and placed in the Dail library.
As indicated in the report, an email was sent to my Private Secretary on 27 July 2007 advising that Aer Lingus "intended to announce its new Belfast base on 8th August". The email was sent by an Assistant Secretary, on foot of consultation with the Secretary General.
