The contribution by renewable energy resources to electricity consumed in 2006 was 8.6%, up from almost 7% in 2005. The Government's targets are to increase this contribution further to a minimum of 15% by 2010 and at least 33% by 2020.

Question 215: To ask the Minister for Communications, Energy and Natural Resources the number of alternative energy projects contributing to the national electricity grid; the number of applications pending; the extent to which these are expected to be successful in the near future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. There are approximately 110 renewable energy projects connected to the electricity network based on criteria applied and data published by EirGrid on its website www.eirgrid.com. I have no statutory function in relation to the award of connection offers by ESB or EirGrid.
