Question 100: To ask the Minister for Education and Science her policy in relation to limiting the expansion of existing second level schools in terms of total student numbers with respect to her decision not to pay teachers' salaries in new second level schools; if she will pay the salaries of additional teachers to cater for the expanded student numbers; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I assume that the Deputy is referring to my reply to the house of 2 October 2007 in which I stated that, while continuing to give reasonable support to existing fee charging second level schools, I do not intend to provide state funding for any new fee charging second level schools. I can clarify for the Deputy that my statement related to any proposal that might come before my Department regarding the expansion of the number of fee charging schools and did not concern second level schools generally.
