Question 153: To ask the Minister for Education and Science if she will detail and itemise the performance based bonuses or other bonuses paid to Secretaries General and Assistant Secretaries in her Department and Offices in the past 12 months; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The scheme of performance-related awards in the civil service applies to Deputy and Assistant Secretaries and equivalent grades. It does not apply to Secretaries General. Details of awards to individual officers under the performance related scheme are not disclosed on the basis that they are confidential to the officer concerned. However I can say that during 2007 awards totalling €93,000 were made to 8 officers in my Department (including Chief Executive posts of civil service bodies under Department aegis which are covered by the scheme) in respect of 2006 (as shown on page 10 of the CPA report for 2006).
