Question 497: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of Garda reserves that have been appointed to Cork city and county to date; the stations they have been allocated to; and the number of reserves expected to come on stream over the period ahead in the same area. The total personnel strength of the Garda Reserve including trainees as at the 26th October 2007 was 247. A total of 171 members are fully attested. There are 20 attested Reserve Gardaí attached to stations in Cork — 18 in Anglesea Street and two in Midleton. Two Cork-based personnel are currently at phase IV of training and a further four are at phase II of training.
The recruitment of members to the Garda Reserve is ongoing with intakes into the Garda College every 4-6 weeks. The next intake will be on the 3rd and 4th November 2007. I welcome the prospect of further assignments of Garda Reserve members to Cork as additional members from Cork become available.
