Question 530: To ask the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of people who have been enrolled in the witness protection programme for each of the past five years; the number of people who are currently protectees of the programme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Witness Security Programme was developed to encourage and reassure vulnerable witnesses in serious criminal cases and is operated by An Garda Síochána. For obvious reasons, it is not the practice to comment on operational details in relation to the Programme, including in relation to details of the kind sought by the Deputy.
