I am informed by the Garda Commissioner that an additional 70 personnel have been allocated to the Organised Crime Unit within the National Bureau of Criminal Investigation. This Unit is tasked with targeting organised criminals and disrupting criminal networks by providing armed assistance during planned operations and searches in respect of persons suspected of being involved in organised criminal activities. Armed support is also provided by the Garda Emergency Response Unit.
