FÁS Training Programmes

Question 52: To ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the number of persons who undertook FÁS training courses to date in 2007; the percentage of those who were unemployed, who were in part time employment and who were employed full time; his plans for FÁS for the remainder of 2007; and if he will make a statement on the matter. 8,162 persons completed training (throughput) through FÁS Training Services courses to the end of May 2007, of whom 5,341 (65%) were unemployed persons on skills training; 2,060 (25%) were employed apprentices and 761 (9%) were other employed persons attending sponsored up-skilling courses.

A further 9,779 were in training at the end of May, of whom 6,243 (64%) were unemployed and 3,225 (33%) were employed apprentices and 311 (3%) were other employed persons on sponsored up-skilling programmes.

In addition, approximately 11,000 employed persons trained through Services to Business Programmes from January to May 2007.

FÁS will continue to provide the range of programmes and services in the context of the policy framework outlined in the FÁS Statement of Strategy 2006-2009 and in accordance with the programme of funding agreed in the 2007 Estimates.
