Question 463: To ask the Minister for Education and Science the position of the application for capital funding from a school (details supplied) in Dublin 11; if the original application submitted in June 2006 which was submitted on the advice of her Department has been accepted by her Department; if her attention has been drawn to the cramped conditions in the school for pupils, staff, parents and visitors, and the fact that the building has not been updated since it was first occupied in 1959; if her further attention has been drawn to the fact that the school are unable to fully implement the new curriculum for physical education and drama as the only available spaces are the classrooms; when a decision is expected in this case; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I can confirm to the Deputy that the school to which she refers has submitted an application for large scale capital funding to the Department.

The application has been assessed in accordance with the published prioritisation criteria for large scale building projects and has been assigned a Band 3 rating.

Progress on the project will be considered in the context of the multi-annual School Building and Modernisation Programme.

The school authority has been informed that the scope of some of the works e.g. staff toilet, window replacement and an upgrade of the heating system, would be suitable for consideration under the Summer Works Scheme. Details of the Summer Works Scheme for 2008 were recently published on the Department's website www.education.ie. The closing date for applications is 28th September 2007.
