Question 254: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there has been recent significant interruptions in the water supply to the town of Monasterevin; the level of investment by his Department to date in augmenting the water supply to Monasterevin; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Phase 1 of the Kildare Water Strategy — Wellfield Contract — is included in my Department's Water Services Investment Programme 2005 — 2007 at an estimated cost of €27.6 million and provides for the development of groundwater sources at Rathangan, Monasterevin (Hybla), Johnstownbridge and Robertstown.

My Department has to date recouped €12.4 million to Kildare County Council in respect of the development of the groundwater sources at Hybla, Monasterevin, which I understand is substantially completed. The commissioning and operation of the infrastructure is a matter for the local authority.
