Question 206: To ask the Minister for the Environment, Heritage and Local Government the person who has responsibility for the appointment of polling clerks and clerks in electoral areas (details supplied) in County Cork for the forthcoming general election; and the criteria for the appointment of such positions. Under electoral law, returning officers are responsible for all matters in connection with the conduct of elections in the constituencies concerned. The detailed arrangements for the appointment of presiding officers and poll clerks are set out in section 95 of the Electoral Act 1992.
