Question 320: To ask the Minister for Health and Children if she will immediately ensure a safe ambulance service to the Belmullet area of County Mayo by ensuring funding for a full 24 hour ambulance base in Belmullet, County Mayo; if she will ask the Health Service Executive to immediately review their decision not to have a full time 24 hour ambulance service at Belmullet ambulance station, the lack of which presently means that people's lives are put in jeopardy due to having to wait for hours when the existing ambulance is on route to Mayo General Hospital on another call; and if she will make a statement on the matter. I propose to take Questions Nos. 320 to 322, inclusive, together.

Operational responsibility for the management and delivery of health and personal social services is a matter for the Health Service Executive and funding for all health services has been provided as part of its overall Vote. Therefore, the Executive is the appropriate body to consider the particular issue raised by the Deputy. My Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to have the matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.
