Question 168: To ask the Minister for Health and Children the reason her Department and the Health Service Executive have not applied to the Department of Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs for additional finance for ambulance transport when there are persons all over County Mayo without an ambulance transport system to take them to essential hospital appointments, in situations where there are no other transport options available, in view of the fact that the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs has publically stated that finance for such projects is available by his Department for CLÁR and Rapid areas once a proposal has been submitted; when such submissions will be submitted by the HSE; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Operational responsibility for the management and delivery of health and personal social services is a matter for the Health Service Executive and funding for all health services has been provided as part of its overall Vote. Therefore, the Executive is the appropriate body to consider the particular issue raised by the Deputy. My Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to have the matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.
