Question 352: To ask the Minister for Health and Children, further to previous parliamentary questions regarding the case of a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny, the reason this person has not had the emergency gastric bypass surgery they require; the further reason the surgeon concerned has informed the person that the funding for the surgery is not available; if she will insist on the surgery being carried out based on the appeal from their general practitioner; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Operational responsibility for the management and delivery of health and personal social services is a matter for the Health Service Executive and funding for all health services has been provided as part of its overall Vote. Therefore, the Executive is the appropriate body to consider the particular case raised by the Deputy. My Department has requested the Parliamentary Affairs Division of the Executive to arrange to have the matter investigated and to have a reply issued directly to the Deputy.
