Question 128: To ask the Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources his assessment of the electricity generating systems or combination of systems most likely to give the most effective, efficient and reliable supply of electricity to the national grid in the future; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The White Paper on Energy Policy states that a comprehensive cost benefit review of the potential for distributed generation will be completed next year. This will address the implications for the electricity networks as well as all issues inherent in developing distributed generation as a long term alternative or supplement to the existing centralised system.
