Question 329: To ask the Minister for Health and Children if she will confirm that allegations made by senior consultant orthodontists that children suffered irreversible damage to their teeth, gums and faces following the cessation of the orthodontic regional training programmes in 1999 will be investigated independently; and if she will make a statement on the matter. No complaints regarding individual patients have been received by my Department regarding alleged irreversible damage to children's teeth. Any such damage, if it occurred, is a matter for consideration by the Dental Council as it is the appropriate statutory regulatory body for complaints of that nature.
