Question 237: To ask the Minister for Education and Science when payment will be made to persons (details supplied), who have done work and are owed money for the new extension and refurbishment of an existing school; if her attention has been drawn to the fact that the school in question is waiting for a new school building since 2000. The original plan for the school referred to by the Deputy was to extend and refurbish the existing school building. However, due to increasing enrolments and the limited size of the existing site, it was decided that the best way forward was to build a complete new 16 classroom Generic Repeat Design school building on a new site.

At present my Department's Technical Staff are working out a fee proposal for the Design Team in relation to the new school building plus the level of fees that are due for work already carried out on the original design. It is envisaged that this fee proposal will be issued to the school before the end of this month. Once the fees are agreed any outstanding monies will be paid without delay. I can assure the Deputy that there has been no unnecessary delay in the matter and that the school and its Design Team are fully aware of the position.
