In order to address the short term accommodation needs of the school referred to by the Deputy, the Department gave approval to the school authority to rent a portakabin for use as a resource classroom.

It would appear that the school may be suitable for consideration under the Small Schools Scheme initiative and should the school authority wish to apply for funding for an extension they may wish to consider applying for same under the 2008 scheme, details of which will be announced later this year.

An application for capital funding has been received from the school to which the Deputy refers. This application is currently being assessed with reference to current and projected pupil enrolments, on-going and planned housing developments and other demographic factors. The final determination of the long term accommodation needs of the school will help inform a decision as to whether a new greenfield site or a site extension is required for the proposed project.
