The Residential Institutions Redress Board was established under statute in 2002 to provide financial redress to victims of child abuse in residential institutions in order to assist them in their recovery and enhance the quality of the remainder of their lives.

The Board is independent in the performance of its functions and is subject to strict confidentiality provisions in processing applications for redress. Accordingly, it is not open to me, nor would it be appropriate, to intercede on behalf of an individual applicant.

The Board has indicated in its guide to the application process that it will give priority to applicants born before 1st January 1937 and to applicants who at the time of making their application are suffering from a medical condition or psychiatric condition which is life threatening.

Each application is assessed individually and applicants are entitled to contact the Board directly, or through their legal representatives, to enquire about the progress of their applications.
