Question 785: To ask the Minister for Education and Science if her attention has been drawn to the fact that a psychological assessment report undertaken by an educational assessment and counselling psychologist in relation to a person (details supplied) in County Wexford recommended that they be provided with access to a reader when sitting their leaving certificate examination owing to the degree of their specific learning difficulty; if, in view of this report, she will indicate the basis for her Department's assertion that the evidence did not support the granting of the accommodation sought; if she will review this case in view of the psychologist's recommendation; and if she will make a statement on the matter. The State Examinations Commission has statutory responsibility for operational matters relating to the certificate examinations, including organising the holding of examinations and determining procedures in places where examinations are conducted.

The July Education Programme is available to pupils with a severe or profound general learning disability or those on the Autism Spectrum. The programme has not been extended to include children with other disabilities. The pupil referred to by the Deputy is therefore not eligible for the programme.
