Question 656: To ask the Minister for Community, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs if his attention has been drawn to the disparity of pay and conditions within the remit of the North-South Ministerial Council, particularly in relation to those who are employed by Waterways Ireland; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The pay and conditions of staff in Waterways Ireland are linked to those of comparable civil and public service staff in the jurisdiction in which they are based. This policy applies to each of the North-South Implementation Bodies. I am informed that the operational issues that this policy presents for the Bodies have been raised by their Chief Executive Officers and are currently being examined by the Secretariat of the North-South Ministerial Council and the two Departments of Finance, North and South.
